Do we need an EORI number?
Yes, for customs matters involving countries outside the EU. If the company only trades within the union, no number is needed. The application is free of charge, most are processed within an hour, and you apply to Swedish Customs.
Why do you need a power of attorney?
A customs broker submits the customs declaration on your behalf, and Swedish Customs may require us to demonstrate that you have actually authorised us. This follows from Article 19 of the Union Customs Code. The power of attorney provides that evidence.
How does this differ from indirect representation?
This power of attorney covers direct representation. We declare in your name and on your behalf. You are the declarant and the customs debt is yours.
With indirect representation, the representative declares in their own name. The representative is then the declarant, and both you and the representative are jointly and severally liable for the customs debt. If you need this form of representation, for example because your business is not established in the EU, contact us so we can draw up a different power of attorney.
How long is it valid?
Until you revoke it in writing. You therefore do not need to sign a new one for every shipment. To end it, email info@tullify.se.
Can I change customs broker later?
At any time. Revoke the power of attorney and sign a new one with your new broker. The history is stored in the Swedish Customs system, not with us, so you lose nothing by switching.
Why do you ask for our company registration number?
A Swedish EORI number is SE plus the company registration number without the hyphen. We therefore derive the number we declare with from what you enter, and do not need to ask for both.
Why do you ask for a Swedish personal identity number?
Only if you are a private individual. An individual’s EORI number is derived from their Swedish personal identity number, and Swedish Customs needs to link the power of attorney to the correct person. This information is sent to us by email and is not stored in any database on the website.
